MEDICINE

Magnetite is widely used and accepted in the field of medicine and has led to great achievements and advances in the treatment of health problems thanks to the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

INDUSTRY

Magnetite is commonly used in the production of iron and steel. It is also often used as a catalyst to remove para-nitrophenol, which is a pollutant present in many industrial processes such as petrochemical industries, the paper industry and in the manufacture of pesticides.

ART

Magnetite dust is used as a pigment in paints, dyes, ceramics to give dark tones. Its use dates back to ancient Greek times and today it remains of high quality.

DATA RECORDING

Although its use is decreasing, the use of magnetite as a data recording medium has been widely used and is still in use today for decades.

FUEL

Another common use of magnetite is the production of synthetic fuel. Carbon monoxide and hydrogen are converted to hydrocarbons through a process known as the Fischer-Tropsch or F-T process. These hydrocarbons are essential to some industries and have multiple applications.

OFFICES

Printer toners may contain magnetite, the contribution of which improves printing.

WATER

Magnetite has been used as a water purifying agent. This mineral has shown good efficiency in the elimination of contaminants.

PRODUCTION OF CHEMICAL AGENTS

It is used as a catalyst in the Haber-Bosch and Fischer-Tropsch processes for the production of ammonia and hydrocarbons.
